LA, the City of Angels, famous (and infamous) for being the worlds capital for Film and TV. Anyone who is anyone will spend their fair share of time in the Hollywood Hills, but LA offers so much more than just the possibility of catching a glimpse of some super celebs. The beaches, shopping and museums are unique to the city and the incredible food scene makes LA a must-see destination.
One of the things that makes Los Angeles such a desirable place to live is that the weather is remarkably consistent. Winter months are generally in the 20s while summer months usually peak around the low 30s. There is no tropical storms or diverse weather conditions. Peak season occurs in Summer when crowds are quite large, and hotels can be extremely expensive. But there is also more festivals and general activity also. Many people enjoy Spring and Autumn in LA as the weather is very agreeable and the city is easier to navigate with less crowds and lower costs.
Flight time is usually around 13 hours via Dublin, it’s approximately 5,281 miles (8,498 km) to LA from Manchester. But with our excellent on flight entertainment you can sit back and relax, plus with pre-clearance in Dublin you can land in LA like a local, with no need to go through customs when you arrive.
Los Angeles Airport (LAX) offers several options to get out of the airport and down to the beach.
Shuttle: FlyAway shuttle buses travel to four stations directly from LAX: Van Nuys, Union Stations, Hollywood and Long Beach.
Train & Bus: A free shuttle operates to bring travellers from their terminal to the Metro Green Line, however, you will need to make transfers to get to downtown LA. Several bus choices are also available depending on your destination. The most popular ones are Culver CityBus, Beach Cities Transit and Big Blue Bus.
Taxi and Rideshare: taxis will cost from around $45-$60 dollar depending on where you are going. Don’t forget to tip!
Most people stay in LA for less than a week. How you spend your time is up to you. A common way to see LA is by sticking with a certain theme. Many people will focus entirely on movies and see sights like the Hollywood Sign, Universal Studios, Walk of Fame, and head to Beverly hills to try and catch a glimpse of celebs. Others may focus on different themes like getting active on Venice Beach, or experiencing The Getty Centre, LACMA and the Griffith Observatory. There are endless choices, how you spend it is entirely up to you!
You won't need a Visa (if you are a British or European citizen), but you will need to complete an ESTA (Electronic System for Travel Authorization). It's easy to apply for one online but be sure to have it completed at least 72 hours before your trip or you could be denied entry.
